Fuzzyness The Record-Breaker

Tue 24th Feb 2015 - 10:25pm

There are a lot of prizes you can win in Super Smash Bros Melee, from Evo to Apex and even MLG, but in the 15-year history of the game only two people have held the world record for Adventure Mode. One is a little-known Japanese speedrunner who goes by the tag Keys2019, and one is Charles ‘Fuzzyness’ Kimmelman, a pro in the competitive scene and the most experienced member of the VwS Smash Bros squad. Not only is Fuzzyness the inventor of the run and founder of the record itself, but after an incredible recent session he is now once again in sole possession of the 5-stock, very hard mode record itself.

As you can see from the footage, getting to the point where you can run Adventure Mode in nine minutes or less requires insane dedication, and it took more than 11k runs for Fuzzyness to execute his difficult, self-made strategies as well as lucking out with the right RNG is a game that is full of the latter. Having seen his original record beaten by Keys a matter of weeks he set it, and choosing to play with the technically demanding Falco Lombardi rather than Dr Mario, the reaction from Fuzzyness when he finally got the World Record back was understandably a mixture of elation and relief, and he’s taking a deserved break from trying to improve his time right now.

Stay tuned for our exclusive interview with Fuzzyness, which is coming along with his example video of what is technically possible with the right RNG and AI-levels of execution, but for now feel free to sit back and enjoy history being made. It’s not every day a world record is broken, and we’re hugely proud to have a record-breaker as part of the VwS family.
