The #LongGrass :: Week 9

Thu 23rd Jul 2015 - 10:53pm : Gaming

Hello and welcome to the ninth addition of Enter the #LongGrass brought to you by 8-12Hz.

This week we are joined by Alexander “Bowie” Pett who is our newest addition to the #VwSFamily and our Smash team.

We’ll start off just by asking you to introduce yourself to the fans.

Good Morning/Afternoon/Evening/Whenever you're reading this! The name's Bowie, you may know me from the Smash community, or the work I do with Nintendo at events like Eurogamer!

Tell us a bit about yourself and where you're from.

I'm 25 years old, originally from West Sussex, moved to London for Drama School. I'm currently a freelance Actor, Voice Actor and Presenter among many other things. I'm a live streamer, Smash Bros competitor and commentator, and more. A lot on the plate as it were, haha!

How did you get into gaming and was Smash your first love?

I've been gaming as long as I can remember. There's a picture of me at my parent's house, 18 months old with a NES controller in hand.  I've always been a gamer. SNES was the main console that I really grew up with, despite owning a Sega MegaDrive which I loved just as much. My father was a big games, so he introduced me to MegaMan 3, which is definitely the best, by the way.

First love in the gaming world will always be Secret of Mana, favourite game of all time, right there. Played Smash since its initial release, but didn't become competitive until summer of 2013, when I was approached by a community member impressed with my ability and invited me to a tournament. The rest is history, really.

So, you do speed runs, do you hold any records and what games do you typically run?

Ahh, speedrunning. Yes, I'm a speedrunner of a variety of games. Most people know me for (excuse me, I have to use the American names here) Illusion of Gaia, Final Fantasy Adventure and Shining Force II. The latter two I have World Records for. I am close to records in other games like Onimusha: Warlords on the PS2, but I mainly run RPGs such as the aforementioned games, and lesser known titles like Shadow Hearts: Covenant. I am also a member of the 'MoonBros' a dedicated group of speedrunners from Europe and America; we race together, learn together and support each other’s runs.

Lastly, I stream a charity Marathon in September called 'Zeldember' in which I casually play through the whole series to raise money for the Motor Neurones Disease Association

So, you’re part of a group called DAT, what is that about?

DAT Team as we are now officially known as (we've gone through some questionable names in the past) are a London-based Smash TO Team dedicated to creating quality and regular Super Smash Bros for Wii U tournaments around the London area. We're a small team of 5, one main TO, two Assistant TOs and two admins, and together we make events like the DAT Smash Series happen and the weekly 'Dat Monday Meltdown' at Meltdown London in Caledonian Road.

How can someone that's reading this find out about future events you're doing in smash?

Well, DAT Team have very recently sorted out our FaceBook page, which can be found here -

You can check out SmashUK for all things Smash... In the UK... Clue's in the name, y'know? Here -  Or you can check out VwS's site and page where I will be updating anything I can get my hands on regarding Smash Bros for WiiU in the UK.

I'll do my best to keep you VwS'ers in the loop, if Smash if your bread and butter!

Where can the fans find you at?

If you're interested in keeping up with me and what I'll be doing, make sure to follow me on Twitter- @Bowie_Alexander, follow me on Twitch - and, if you're keen to just keep an eye on my Speedrun PBs, my profile is here -

Lastly, do you have any shout outs?

Of course, I would like to shout out my teammates at DAT Team, Tom Scott, Ben Prah, Dom Komooshan and Eve Jacobsen. My Speedrunning team, the MoonBros, amazing bunch of friends who helped me get where I am. And Gerrick1, my American sidekick who keeps on supporting, and lastly that there family of mine, who keep on making sure I'm the best I can be!

Well, everyone's that's a little look into me, I look forward to my time here at VwS and getting stuck into everything that the guys and girls here underway with! Thanks for reading, and see you really soon!
